One-Day Raku Workshop, with Lynn Dee

Sunday, March 19, 2023 at 9:00am

*Class starts at 9:00 am and ends when firing is completed (early afternoon).

ThePottery Studio, 2281 Diegueno Rd Borrego Springs CA 92004

Raku is a firing technique that originated in 16th Century Japan. It is a low temperature firing which has been adopted and modified by artists around the world. The process involves taking the glowing hot pottery from the kiln after a brief firing and smoking it in a container lined with palm fronds and leaves, creating crackled glazes and colorful metallic effects.

Raku is a great experience for anyone. It’s a fun process and you don’t even need to make your own work. You are encouraged to bring your own bisque ware or you may purchase a piece of bisque ware at The Pottery. You can select from a group of simple forms, vases and tea bowls that were made at The Pottery. Learn about glazes, metallic and colorful. Lynn has experience designing glazes and makes almost all of the glazes made available for your use during the Workshop. You will get to experience the firing process from beginning to end, learn to glaze your pieces and see them being fired and smoked. No previous clay experience necessary.

Questions? Please contact Lynn directly at lynndeestudios@gmail.com or call or text 360-758-2815.

After the firing, you will be able to take your completed pieces home with you.

Minimum:  4 participants

Maximum:  7 participants

The workshop will be held at The Pottery Studio, under the big blue canopy, at the Borrego Springs High School.

No prior clay experience is required.
