Milky Way Astrophotography Workshop with Chris Olivas 

In this workshop we will learn the basics of photography and astronomy to capture the beautiful dark skies of Borrego Springs. We will visit several easy to access locations that are ideal for capturing the Milky Way core with unique features to the area. This is a great workshop for beginners with limited space for personalized instruction. This workshop includes a 4.5 hour in the field hands on session. Bringing your own camera equipment is highly encouraged.


6:00-6:30 Meet at sunset to discuss the basics of photography and the exposure triangle. 

6:30-7:00 Scout photography locations

7:00-7:30 Explore the night sky and learn principles of photography composition

7:30-10:30 pm Get to know your gear and shoot, shoot, shoot!

We will visit 3-4 of the unique galleta meadows metal sculptures that make amazing subjects to photograph with the night sky.

*Note that transportation in the workshop will be provided to the more off-road sites.

The workshop will meet in the front courtyard of the Borrego Art Institute at 6:00pm. 

Chris is a science educator and photographer/videographer for over 14 years. He has an extensive background in astronomy, photography, and has won numerous awards for his photography work. He loves the combination of science and art that astrophotography entails and loves to spread his passion for the night sky.
