KIDSART art program is a creative way to share our passion for the arts and education. Kids and teens of all ages will find the Borrego Art Institute an inviting place to explore, learn and make art. We are dedicated to discover innovative ways to inspire young artists of all levels as they explore our exhibitions and create their own artwork in our bright, inviting art gallery and the ArtPark gardens. Whether your child is just learning or is already very skilled, our projects are fun, challenging, and kid-tested to inspire confidence.
The Photography Program
With professional photographer Tom Hogan
An exciting aspect of the KidsArt
photography program has been the inclusion of the Photography Workshop
for 4th and 5th-grade students. Instructed by professional
photographers, students are provided with cameras and equipment
thanks to a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
The 2018 class completed a video titled “Big Little Town” which was shown during the Borrego Film Festival. If you missed this video, turn up your sound and click on https://vimeo.com/246308644.

2022 KidsArt Program
Location: 587 Palm Canyon Drive, Suite 125. (old library)
Saturdays: January 8 and 15, 2022, 1-3 pm: Starry Nights.
Saturdays: February 12 and 19, 2022. 1-3 pm: printmaking: the Art of Sharing.
Saturdays: March 19 and 26, 2022, 1-3 pm: Our Blooming Desert
The theme for the March program is Our Blooming Desert. Spring in the desert is a magical time. Our spiny plant neighbors put on a colorful show of flowers for a short time that we wish could last a little longer. Students will learn papier-mâché techniques, creating their own beautiful barrel cactus sculpture, blooming with flowers that will last all year! Repurposing paper and cardboard materials, bits of fabric, and yarn, our young artists will add to Borrego’s signs of Spring. Please register so we can get the right amount of art supplies for this class.
Saturdays: April 9 and 16, 2022, 1-3 pm: It’s Snowing Palo Verde!
Our Palo Verde trees around the Village of Borrego Springs create snowy blizzards of yellow Palo Verde flowers when the breezes pick up. Students will have the opportunity to express their experiences with And the beauty of our “greenstick” friends while learning colored paper collage techniques to create light and shadow. Scissors, paper and lots of glue (who could say no to that?) Please register so we can get the right amount of art supplies for this class.
Saturdays: May 14 and 21, 2022, 1-3pm: Tie Up KidsArt
The month of May will “Tie Up KidsArt” for the year with some experiences with weaving. From “weaving” fiber through burlap to lessons on how to weave on simple looms made from household items, students will gain an understanding of one of mankind’s oldest art forms. Please register so we can get the right amount of art supplies for this class.
Whether your child is exploring the arts or honing their style, KidsArt projects are fun, challenging, and kid-tested to inspire confidence!
